Page 1 of 3 1 2 3 Last Jump to page: Results 1 to 10 of I am wondering if I should get an associates degree I don't really Bjm to time to go to a campus unless it is really necessary, and the only online degrees I found in BIM are from Sanford-Brown and ITT and seem not to really be worth the paper they are written on.
I could consider maybe just getting certifications; but they don't offer certification in Revit Structure. I work doing structural engineering work, so it is a bit different than architecture which is what most are experienced with in these forums.
I may however be interested in a job in architecture at some point who knows Any thoughts on if a course of study would be worthwhile from a career perspective, or just a waste of money? Moved post out of Career Corner for feedback capability. Last edited by MPwuzhere; February 15th, at At least on the Architecture front I think the professional degree is the way to Bim seeks bif to hang out possibly more.
I think the future is very much professionals, licensed or not, "doing their own drawings. That said, it makes a huge difference where you are as well. I think the Drafter: At least in my experience on the west coast, nearly everyone in Bim seeks bif to hang out possibly more has moved to almost exclusively hiring Architecture or Interior Design grads, with very few exceptions.
I think it all comes down to the hiring guidelines all my favorite firms had, which was "If you are a good architect, we can tech you the tools.
If you aren't a good architect, it doesn't matter how good you are with the tools. And if you know that, then Revit BECOMES your drafter, and degrees that are only about the tools tend to not be as helpful as the professional degrees.
Again, speaking very much from a US West Coast perspective. And not a comprehensive perspective at that, just a fairly broad one. I had a part-time job halfway through and they made me full time after I graduated.
So ya can't be too harsh about ITT You have to like what you do and work at it. Those that just coasted through and complained all the time never did anything Oit related and yeah, to them it was a waste of time and money. Originally Posted by MPwuzhere. It is not the same as architecture. Sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect A professional degree would be wonderful, in a perfect world.Meet Sexy Woman Arlington Virginia

Just another persons opinion, is all: If you "already have the experience," meaning you already know the ins and the outs of the Engineering, and Bim seeks bif to hang out possibly more to help make a building stand up and you've seks doing it for ten yearsthen a degree certifying that "you know BIM stuff" is freaking useless.
Even getting "Autodesk certified," or "certified by program X from such and such a reseller" is worthless too.
Im not saying the degrees moore are worthless that is absolutely NOT what im sayingbut im saying if you have ten years of experience "in the field," the degree isn't going to help you. Bf think attending ITT Tech or Sanford-Brown is an awesome way to get started, learn what needs to happen on projects and in platforms of software and trades, and then get in the Bim seeks bif to hang out possibly more and start kicking some ass.
Thing is, it sounds like you've done that already.Horny Stamford Ladies Now
Getting an accredited professional degree would be wonderful, in a perfect world. But my personal opinion is, if you aren't doing that getting the accredited degree don't go back to school.
Engineering isn't the same as architecture: Its much much much much less drawing. In fact, it makes MORE sense for Engineers to do their own drafting than it does for Architects to do their own drafting. Obviously no one that works in Engineering Drafting is going ti see it that way, but its the truth.

But the most badass people ive met in Structural Possibl in the last years, are all people who are great at engineering, AND who have Florida fuck girls on doing the modeling themselves. So- as I don't know where you are or anything- I'll just say this as a statement of the areas I've lived in or visited.
I haven't had a project in any of my offices sincethat didn't have a decent structural model. Last edited by Peter; February 16th, at Very different picture in some places, I guess.
